The Backstory: What’s the WASPI Campaign for?
The WASPI campaign was launched after the State Pension age for women increased from 60 to 65 (and up to 66 in subsequent equalisation measures). But it wasn’t the change itself that was the problem: It was the way the change was announced.
Many women say they had little or no warning and couldn’t afford to try it and see what would happen — they weren’t given time to prepare for retirement.
Some missed out on tens of thousands of pounds, others were bullied into working despite health problems or family caring responsibilities.
The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) has now accepted that the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) did not do enough to let people know – so causing injustice.
Why is There a £3,005 Charge?
The £3,005 compensation is not a state pension — it’s a separate compensation award. This is being classified as a “Level 4” redress, the level being identified as “significant and lasting injustice” in accordance with PHSO guidelines.
It recognizes the human, financial and emotional toll of poor communication — not lost pension funds, directly.

When and How Will I Receive Payments?
“The initial payment cycle will commence in the middle of June 2025, we understand that claimants will receive payments electronically into their bank accounts as per their registration details.
Eligible women who have not yet submitted a claim should watch for official government updates, check their website and look out for MPs and legal advocacy teams’ announcements.
Claimants can expect to have to confirm their date of birth, residency and pension status and to provide any evidence for that.
